My dog - Sophie

 I didn't have an idea for a new blog and then my dog came into my room and we just stared at each other for like 5 minutes so I figured I'd write about her. 

My dog's name is Sophie, she's  King Charles Cavalier and she is a year and a half. She came to our home a year ago. Her previous owners had to give her up because of their allergies. We were supposed to be a temporary home until they find new owners for her. Why only temporary? Well, we wanted a dog for a while then but we always talked about a big, energetic, sporty dog and I also wanted to take one from the shelter, but we were worried that our lifestyle (very chaotic, lots of travel, never enough time...) wouldn't suit a dog.  The idea of having one "for a test" seemed great to check if that was true. After maybe a week we called our friends and told them that we've completely fallen in love with Sophie and won't give her up. So she stayed with us and we are the happiest and luckiest dog owners ever, since then!!

Nostalgia

In the dictionary, the definition of nostalgia is " a sentimental longing or wistful affection for a period in the past". So nostalgia is a kind of missing something or being homesick.  I think it's a good thing to be 'reminded' about good things that have happened, as long as we can remember that our reality is also fine and the time that has passed will never come back, but the good things will still keep happening. If we can manage to keep that perspective I think it's good to feel nostalgic once in a while.  On the other hand, it can be very painful, for example, for a person that is far away from home: homesick and alone.I think it's not easy to have a mindset that wrote about above so for most of the time nostalgia is not a good thing.

"Failure is not the opposite of success; it's part of success"

I don't think that I could agree more with this quote. In sports, the most common definition of success is winning. In most disciplines, there are no clear instructions or a path that you have to follow to be the best and win. Mostly, the athletes are the ones who create the standards of a discipline. They do that by learning from each other and pushing each other to be better. And that is done by learning from failures.  When you win you don't have this urge to do better because you are already the best and you don't think there's something to correct. But when you fail, you can look at the person who did better, learn from them and then develop even better features than them and beat this person. Failure is an amazing opportunity to learn something and is what creates success.

Eaton

            Last week, during an exchange lesson with our other English teacher we talked about a public school in the UK - Eaton, and generally about an institution of a public, boarding, all-boys school. The topic was pretty interesting but the thing that made me worry... When we talked about the pros and cons of all the boys in a big range of age all living together. When I said that the older boys can be role models and brother figures to the younger ones, the teacher called me an optimist for thinking that! She said that they very often choose the path opposite to that and bully or abuse the young boys. I'm aware that things like that happen but I still hope that there are people who choose to use their higher standing and power to help the more vulnerable ones rather than abuse them.
