My dog - Sophie

Obraz
I didn't have an idea for a new blog and then my dog came into my room and we just stared at each other for like 5 minutes so I figured I'd write about her.  My dog's name is Sophie, she's  King Charles Cavalier and she is a year and a half. She came to our home a year ago. Her previous owners had to give her up because of their allergies. We were supposed to be a temporary home until they find new owners for her. Why only temporary? Well, we wanted a dog for a while then but we always talked about a big, energetic, sporty dog and I also wanted to take one from the shelter, but we were worried that our lifestyle (very chaotic, lots of travel, never enough time...) wouldn't suit a dog.  The idea of having one "for a test" seemed great to check if that was true. After maybe a week we called our friends and told them that we've completely fallen in love with Sophie and won't give her up. So she stayed with us and we are the happiest and luckiest do...

Eaton

Obraz
Last week, during an exchange lesson with our other English teacher we talked about a public school in the UK - Eaton, and generally about an institution of a public, boarding, all-boys school. The topic was pretty interesting but the thing that made me worry... When we talked about the pros and cons of all the boys in a big range of age all living together. When I said that the older boys can be role models and brother figures to the younger ones, the teacher called me an optimist for thinking that! She said that they very often choose the path opposite to that and bully or abuse the young boys. I'm aware that things like that happen but I still hope that there are people who choose to use their higher standing and power to help the more vulnerable ones rather than abuse them.

"Little Women"

Obraz
Some time ago I've watched a great movie called "Little Women". It's available on Netflix and is based on a book by Louisa May Alcott. "Little Women" is a drama/romance film.  It doesn't have a complex plot so and is easy to relax. The action takes place in the state of Massachusetts in 1860. The movie tells a story about the domestic life of four sisters and how they grow into being women. The March family goes through many ups and downs concerning their daily life and upbringing the girls while their father is fighting at war. I really recommend this movie as it's very moving and blissful to watch.

"Atypical"

Obraz
Recently I've watched a great series on Netflix called "Atypical". It tells a story about a life of a boy with autism.  It shows his daily struggles which he has to face because of his diagnosis and how he overcomes them. The plot is not complexed and let's you relax while watching. The series really helped me understand not only people with autism but also all the people who struggle with being social, feel isolated and don't like being surrounded by a lot of people.  I really recommend it as a relaxing and calming type of series.

How about letting go?

Obraz
Often in life, we stress about things that we can’t control, and nothing comes from it. We just waste our energy.   What good can come from worrying if you get on time to your doctor when you’re stuck in traffic? You can’t leave your car in the middle of the road and go by subway. You can’t change that the accident happened. You could’ve left your house sooner? Great! Remember that and you’ll do it next time. (learning from ‘failure’ )  Do everything you can. Choose the fastest route and call the reception that you’ll be late. But then, just let go and see what will happen! Don’t waste your energy for worrying!

Failure? What’s that?

Obraz
Win or lose? How about, win or learn? Every time something goes not the way we want it to, we have to options; cry about it and give up, or learn what we did wrong and remember not to do it again. I personally recommend the second option. That’s the best way to improve what we’re working on and make it the best possible.  W hen you first rode a bike didn’t you fall? ... I thought so. I doubt that you took that fall as a failure and gave up, but you tried again, this time keeping better balance and not looking back while riding. And now it doesn’t challenge you at all. So, why not react to all our ‘failures’ that way? Try lots of things and learn as much as we can?!

"Failure is not the opposite of success; it's part of success"

I don't think that I could agree more with this quote. In sports, the most common definition of success is winning. In most disciplines, there are no clear instructions or a path that you have to follow to be the best and win. Mostly, the athletes are the ones who create the standards of a discipline. They do that by learning from each other and pushing each other to be better. And that is done by learning from failures.  When you win you don't have this urge to do better because you are already the best and you don't think there's something to correct. But when you fail, you can look at the person who did better, learn from them and then develop even better features than them and beat this person. Failure is an amazing opportunity to learn something and is what creates success.
